On behalf of the organising team, we would like to thank all of the marshals, officials and supporters that helped make the 2008 Trinity Hyundai Rally of the Midlands such a massive success.
We welcomed back the BRC in the form of the Silverstone Tyres BRC Challenge, plus the Richard Egger Insurance BTRDA Asphalt Rally Series, the AWMMC Heart of England Rally Championship and, new for this year, the Super 1000 Rally Series.
On Saturday, a separate Historic Rally for pre-1969 built cars covered the bulk of the day’s stages.
After nearly 100 competitive miles, the Subaru Impreza WRC of Eian Pritchard, running at number 1, claimed a well deserved win. His co-driver, Ludlow based Chris Ridge, was well impressed by his first ever win in a WRC car. Spectators were entertained by some impressive performances down the field. Former kart star, Jody Bowcott, and Steve McPhee in their Impreza seeded at car 31 posted some competitive times throughout the event, ending up a very creditable 3rd overall.
Local Midlands driver, Clive King, and navigator Bob Ward, with over 50 years of competitive experience between them, won the battle in the Historic event in their venerable Mini Cooper S. They fended off Richard Jackson in his Porsche 911 by a mere 11 seconds at the finish, with Peter Lewis and Stuart Cardell in close pursuit in a well sorted Ford Anglia finishing in third place.
The Spirit of the Rally Award was presented to Rallyfinishcrew.com who seemed to be everywhere, supporting passage and finish controls and even managing to help out at Parc Ferme. Many thanks.
Finally, a big thanks to the full field of 90 crews that supported this year’s event. We were only sorry that all of the reserves didn’t get a run.
We look forward to seeing you next year, same place, same time. Friday 19th, Saturday 20th June 2009, put it in your diary or ‘Outlook’ now to avoid disappointment.
See you soon!
